Possessing a formidable landscape vision, acquired during student years in Dusseldorf, Germany, German-born American artist Albert Bierstadt turned to the American West in 1859, recording scenery on a scale that only his contemporary, Frederic Church, could match.  When Bierstadt arrived in Yosemite in 1863, her found an incomparable artistic resource with a wide range of stunning landscape formations.
